The EOS has been around since last June so wondered how owners were doing on average mpg especially as the EOS is some 200Kg heavier than the golf/passats. Be interesting to see how the TFSI petrol version compares with the diesel.

About 27mpg.
Gets about 15 to 20mpg on my 2 mile daily commute.
Then I occasionally travel to relatives (250 mile round trip) which brings it to the 27mpg. The top is down at every opportunity as well.

It's quite funny, after commuting for a couple of weeks, I filled it up and it showed 200 miles of fuel left (can't remember the real figure). As I drove up to Durham, the further I drove the figure rose to 205, 210, 215 etc.

Oh, I'm not an economical driver by the way. It's the 2.0 tfsi, so the fun is in the driving!:D :D :D

On a drive of anything over 3/4 miles the mpg of my 2.0 FSI Turbo settles to abt 32/33. On a longer drive it goes up to 34/35. Not at all unhappy with that bearing in mind the performance.

Hi, interesting stuff this mpg.
My Eos is the 2.0 TFSi and on my 8 mile journey to work on a morning (8:15 to 8:30am) the mpg is usually 20-22.
On my return journey home, at teatime (5:15 to 5:53pm) then the mpg is 31-33.
I put the difference down to the fact that because my car is left out overnight, then the engine is a lot colder and takes longer to reach an effiecient working temperature in the morning.
The 8 mile journey includes 2 miles of town rush hour traffic and 4 miles on an almost deserted dual carriage way, and then 2 miles on a B road with light traffic.
On journeys to the lake district, which is about 60 miles away, then the mpg is around 34-37.
I am still driving reasonably steady, car has only done 2500 miles to date.

My 2.0 TDI SPORT did anything between 47 and 53 mpg however I do drive 120 miles round trip every day.... on shorter journeys it registers about 33-38

Thanks folks that’s very helpful.

I have had both the VAG 1.8T and the 1.9 150bhp diesel in the past and with my driving style I reckon I would get around 30mpg out of the TFSI and 45mpg out of the 140bhp diesel. I do around 14k miles a year so would save over £500 with the diesel.
I have driven both EOSs and the diesel has that lovely ‘kick in the pants’ feel when the power comes in but the TFSI sounds so sweet and quite that it’s worth forgoing the fuel savings to have that lovely 200bhp engine.
Cheers, David

How did you work out how much savings you made?

I would do around 6,000 a year how much savings would there be between a 2.0 fsi and a diesel. i mainly do city driving only the occaisonal trip from leicester to london about 1 every 2-3 months if that.

Hi Louis,

It's just worked out on the annual cost of fuel

EG: annual mileage divided by anticpated mpg gives number of gallons per year. Multiply that by cost per litre of fuel times 4.54 (litres in a UK gallon) gives fuel cost per year. I would guess your saving with such a low mileage would be around £250 per year with the diesel but the diesel would cost you more to buy than the 150 bhp 2.0 FSI. I think VW expected the 2.0 FSI to be the most popular choice of engine. If you pay extra for the diesel engine though you would easily recoup the cost when you come to sell it.

Clearly you need to drive them both and see which you prefer.

Cheers, David

Thanks for reply. why the bigger profit when selling?

Also looking at the TFSI not the FSI
