Hi guys, my first post so hope you may be able to help.
I've just picked up a '97 A3 1.8 Sport from my nephew which has the dreaded ABS light on.
He left the car standing for a couple of months before bringing it round to me. The car didn't have ABS light on prior to him picking it up last week, after being standing.
The ABS is the only light on and it's on from the moment you start it.
I did a quick search on the net and found someone saying that if the light is on all the time it is probably 'relay' related whereas if the light comes on after the car starts to move it is probably sensor related.
Can anyone clarify this?
Before we found that post (not on here) we had already taken the wheels off and cleaned and checked the sensors and changed one that had a crack in it. We put it back together and took it for a drive for a few miles and light still on.
Is it plausible for the relay to get damp and malfunction..if it a simple job of a touch of WD40 or similar.?
Failing that is there a VAG-COM armed man/woman in the North Hampshire area?

Car needs a scan to see what the fault is it may just need re-setting.
