Im about to get my hands covered in oil once again, Iv gone out and got a S reg 1.9 TDi 110 sport for around the £600 mark, the only problem is a valve has snapped off and welded itself to a pistion,

http://i23.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/86/35/89fc_1.JPG

it may be fixed or i may just put a donnor in for about £500

the rest of the car looks like this,

http://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/86/35/2c8a_1.JPG

the inside needs a good old scub as its been sat there for 11 months,

Not bad for about £1000 eh, how much could i sell it for ? Any SLR owners out there wanting a private plate,

Hope its a nice cheap repair. I suspect a fully working S plate Passat will be worth about £2500, private sale. Assuming average mileage, etc etc. I like the plate but I think if anyone has an SLR they're likely to be able to afford SLR 1, or something like that. :D

yer i feel it could be fixed, but the worse thing is it may need a newer engine at £500 fitted by me,

Was it really worth £600 with a knackered engine though? I would have thought a maximum of £400 to be honest, maybe less (i.e "scrap value" 10% of retail kind of thing)

if you can find one for £400 then id come and inspect it with you, its all about putting it all together and looking at the price at the end, if you can buy and build for less than you can sell it for then its worth the time, if you cant then i agree, walk away, but this one i feel there is not only money to be made, but a great car upon finish, watch this space.

Ahh, Tdi and a can of Castlemaine. Perhaps some Warstiener would have been more appropriate?
Good luck with the rebuild. Do you know what caused the valve to bugger up?

Nope, its just one of them things, its the 1st one thats ever done this to any car iv had, could have been a sticky valve, got stuck in the open position, piston gone up and whacked it, and this is what hapened, all i know is im gonna fix this up and enjoy it,

the bonus, the cars only done 88k as so shes a low milage car too, i was under the impression she was on 100k as the guy who sold it thorte she was just about to hit 100k, dozy person, right, best get my hands dirty and my wallet open!

more news later!

Er i feel its going to be a newer enging, for cost reasons, VW wont sell just 1 con rod on its own, you have to buy 4 at £390+Vat new piston £140+Vat and shells at £60+Vat for 1 con rod, = far to much cash, Newer Engine = £395 inc VAT delivered

so today will be all about stripping out the old engine and preping it for a newer engine!

Watch this space!

nice looking car but i cant see that age and shape fetching £2500 now. they seemed to have droped a bit in price over the last 6 months.

probably best bet would be to get a good 2nd hand engine and stick that in.

Nice job. Hope the road trip goes well.
I've only ever used Kurust to, well, cure rust. Always did the trick. Sand it back after, give it a good spray and splash on some Waxoil. Doesn't matter what it looks like in there does it!

Sam

Is it rust or leaked battery acid?

Either way a bit of sanding, some rust treatment and a spray and you're good.

If you want it out of view, invest in the plenum cover found on B5.5 Passats. IIRC it requires little to no modification to fit.

edit: I just read the post above, posted a few hours ago, I must read all the thread before replying :(

Coming together nicely!!

Turkster
07-02-2007, 03:04 PM
shes all back together now, just needs a MOT and a blooming good old scrub up and a waxing,

The Glow plug light keeps coming on in the dash, what could be causing that?
The car starts 1st turn of the key. Fires up like a champion!

Glowplug light is often a sign the brake pedal switch is duff. Check brake lights are working.

Beyond that, you'll need a fault code checker as it could be engine related - a sensor popped or something.

strangly enuff, the break light pedal switch is in need of looking at, but i do think one of the glow plugs is up the duff as its a hard start when its dead cold, and plenty of smoke out the zorst!
