Garage lying about oil requirements?

My wife has an A3 2.0 FSI recently serviced by a local garage controlled by a national chain and approved by the AA

As such we received a 20% discount on the service. However on collection she was told an additional £25 had been charged as her model MUST have fully synthetic oil. Thereby negating the discount

I've never heard that the A3 must have fully synthetic.

I have been told to use 5W-30 fully synthetic on my 2.0 FSI. You can double-check at the Shell Lube-match thingy...See here

I would find out the spec of oil used and see if its VAG compatible
