Airbag Warning Light Permanently On

Hi All
Sharan 1.9TDi W Reg 2000.
My airbag warning light has just come on permanently. Any ideas what could be the most likely cause of this or at least where to start looking?

wiring issue? faulty airbag ECU? Best off getting a scan of the ECU with vagcom / dealership to see what exactly it is. I can do this if you can get to me in Devon (end of M5 area)
