Hi all,

Just prepping some SD cards (4 gig non SDHC) for monday and wondered if the B8 has the same issues as the B7 (500 file limit per card) :confused:

No PDF, but here's what it says in my manual:

CD:
Max 255 files per directory, max 255 directories.
In total not more than 512 files and directories per medium.

SD Card:
Max 512 files per directory, max 255 directories.
In total not more than 2048 files and directories per medium.

Is there a similar limitation for other audio sources (for example, USB hard drive connectived via Audi Music Interface) too?

I just order a 4Gb SD-Card to try this out. Could you explain this a little for me.

Directories = Folders?
Files = .mp3 files?

So you could have 1 directory/folder with 512 mp3 files or tracks, am I interpreting that correctly?

Therefore, you could have 255 directories/folders as described above?

i.e. 255 albums??
:confused:

You're virtually there. As you say, a maximum of 512 tracks in any one folder and a maximum of 255 folders.

However, you couldn't have 255 folders each containing 512 tracks as there is an overall limit of 2048 files and folders on the card.

Unlikely to be an issue in real life unless you have a lot of short tracks at low bitrates. I use .mp3 files at 192kb/s and the 4GB card in my car at the moment is filled with about 80 albums containing a total of about 900 tracks i.e. a total of 980 entries.

Hope this helps.

Ahhh right, get ya ... so I basically could have 170no 12 track albums on a card, assuming they fit on the 4Gb SD card. The postie dropped my Transcend card off to us 10mins ago from that offtek site. I'm gonna have a go at this later.

Thanks a lot. :beerchug:
