I have been using Tesco Diesel for the past year, 18k miles giving a long term average of 43mpg. I do a mix of both urban and motorway driving. The car has been smokey under acceleration from new and has just had its first service (£142).

Has anyone experienced any benefit from running Shell or BP Fuel?

I use loads of fuel as i do about 2k miles a week, i only fill up at cheapest, usually around here morrisons, about 2 months ago filled with shell mega exspensive extra fuel by mistake, its ment to have given more power and economy, never noticed the difference i average 51-53 mpg, stayed the same but the 2.0tdi has more than enough power so may only notice on less powered cars, the economy seemed the same as well.
definately not worth the extra 8p per litre.

Hi tr8... I did a thread on this a while back.

My personal conclusion is I prefer std Shell (Extra) a touch smoother & less smokey. MPG average remains about 43 for gen use.

Is your Passat noticeably smokey under acceleration?

I used to get some smoke under heavy accelleration when i was using Tesco fuel. but this weekend i have done the 600 mile round trip to StIves Cornwall using Esso fuel and no noticable smoke. so i shall be using esso as long as the price is good £1.189 here same as tesco. did not buy any in cornwall as the passat wil do the round trip with fuel to spare. but with some looking texaco was cheapest there at £1.209.

£1.209 per litre at Texaco!!!!!!!

I live in N. Ireland but I get my diesel in the Republic where it is now £1.017 per litre at Texaco in a town called Muff!!! (only ten minutes from my house). Diesel is also 0.1p per litre cheaper than unleaded here as well. I was wondering is it still dearer in England than unleaded and by how much roughly??
