Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have done a quick search for the topic but not found any answers.

I've just got myself a 1997 A4 Avant 1.9 TDi and its due a 100,000 mile service. Question is which oil to use...i've had done a few searches on Google and gather it's got to be a 505.1 or 0-30w spec oil and wondered if anyone can recommend anywhere that sells it at a reasonable price as I can't find it for less than £40 per 5 litres?

Any help welcome!

Cheers,

Steve

A good quality 0-10W 30-40 will be fine. The 0W 30 is good for efficiency as its 'thin'.

Most decent oils for 5 litres will start around £15+. I used Mobil 1 0w 40 on my last service. £24 at Cost-co. I also did an engine oil flush as diesels aren't the best for keeping oil clean. It still goes black fairly quickly, just not as quick and also the flush gives it the best chance of being clean and getting rid of deposits.

The 0W30 oil is a fully synthetic so would be around £25 upwards. Halfords is good for choice, but can be expensive.

Try a local autofactors or try http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ as they are good on price and range and deliver to your door, also you can ask them what is best suited to your vehicle.
