I've owned my first A4 for three weeks, the previous owner was either the worst driver in the world or just totally neglected the car. There were scuffs and scrapes all over. I've sprayed and touched it up etc, plus I spent £400 brake discs/pads all round and a suspension arm and wheel bearings just last week, anyway......

Friday night, I hear a strange hissing noise like something was taking in air and every gear change it sounded like a had a dump valve. I pulled over, looked around the engine bay, pulled the throttle cable, all seemed fine.
Got back in, realised the noise was only when I had my clutch in. Drove it 10 miles more, now it makes a mettalic very loud screaming noise when I put the clutch down and then stalls unless I give it revs and have to near enough dump the clutch to get it moving. I managed to get it home, has anyone experienced this, could it be the clutch plate or bearing?

It's a non-runner at the minute and I'm considering getting rid, already
