Continental Sport Contact 3's

Ive just been phoning about and checking the web for the best price for 4x continental Sport contact 3's for my A4 cab. i had Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico's on last time and although i cant fault them for grip, they have worn out in 8K. (front), so have decided to go back to the Continentals.

Originally the car was had the Sport Contact 2's on when new (235/45/17 Y94), but ive just been told that it should have the XL version on. These extra load versions weren't on the originals, so is this a new thing, or just the garage trying to sell me what they have in stock!

I cant find anywhere online that states whether the car shoudl hasve the XL version on or not :confused:

Ok, got to the bottom of this... The XL tyre versions (extra load) or "97" versions can take a load of up to 730kg where as the standard tyres or "94" can take a load rating of 670kg.

94 - 670x4=2680kg
97 - 730x4=2920kg

I have checked with my local Audi dealer and they have confirmed that for my car, (A4 Cab B6/H8, 2.5TDI) you do not need the XL versions. however it is personal preference. Since i never have more than 2 people and light luggage in, the standard "94's" will be fine for me, though if you regularly fully load up the car with 4/5 people and a full boot load, i would go for the "XL 97's"

Damn, you'd have to carry some mightily big people to exceed 2.7T in a car that weighs around 1.5T.

extra loads are basically have a thicker sidewall so take more weight.quite a lot of cars come with continentals on from new and in my experiance they seem to perish a lot compared to other makes.if u want miles out of your tyres go for michelins.
