Hey All,

3 weeks ago I was involved with my Passat B6 2.0FSI, in a car accident. Lucky enough I came out unharmed, but the car is a right off.
I ordered a new Passat (1.8TSI) and was informed that it'll be equipped with a RCD310 instead of the RCD300 I had in my previous model.

What are the difference between them? Any photos of the RCD310?

Thanks in advance,

Doron.

You'll have spotted that the RCD300 is pants. The RCD310 is slightly less pants.

Depending on how old your old 'un was, it didn't play MP3's. The later 300's and the new 310 do take one MP3 CD. I believe that it also comes with an Aux-In socket that you can plug the output of an iPod into, but it doesn't control the iPod.

Reportedly, the sound is better than the RCD300, but that wouldn't be a big acheivement!

My big recommendation, if you can, is to spash out the extra £220 and have the RCD510, which is 6 x MP3 CD's and colour touchscreen. It also has an SD card slot.

thanks Teflon,

My old RCD300 did get mp3 burnt CDs (I was smart enough to insist having it). I asked my dealer to for a price quote on the RCD510 today .

I suspect it'll cost more that 220GBP in my country

Cheers,

Doron

Guys,

No way I'll pay overs a 1,000GBP (!!!) in my country for the RCD510, (that is 9,000 New Israeli Shekel). This is a rip off!!! And the dealer even will not rebate the RCD310...

Either I 'll buy a unit in the UK or install an Alpine/JVC/... unit, or just forget about it.

However, thanks!!!

Cheers, Doron.

I have the RCD310 system in my new EOS - it comes with 8 speakers as standard and I think the sound quality is superb - better than the Dynaudio upgrade I had in my last car a Passat! (which cost about £1,000)

Cheers

Got the RCD310 ("wrapped" with a 2009 new Passat;))

The sound is just as like the RCD300 in my previous 2008 Passat.

Since I have builtin parking sensors, the RCD310 will display distances from near by objects, while parking, and will lower down the Audio's volume, so one can hear the "beeps".

Further, the MFD now displays also the MP3 file names and information.

There is an AUX option in the RCD310, which enables selecting AUX (for iPOD or and cable connected device) or... Audio Bluetooth. However, I have tried to pair my mobile phone with the RCD310, but failed to do so, since the phone did not find the RCD310... Any idea why:confused:.

cheers,

Doron.

You have to have the factory bluetooth mobile phone kit fitted for this to work, so VW dealer told me!
