Hello

I had an original audi stereo in my a3, but i have changed it to an aftermarket head unit using the autoleads extra wiring harness so my speakers will still work.

but now my head unit does not turn off even when the key is out of the ignition, i have to turn it off myself,
is there a solution to this problem?

thanks

You need to source a switched live from somewhere else, or if your A3 has canbus (?>2004) you could use a canbus adapter and this would also give you illumination and speed signals (not used by all HUs)

What year is your A3?

Easiest way to fix it would be to run a simple switched live feed from the fusebox to the rear of the stereo without the need for an adapter, This will turn off the stereo whenever the ignition is turned of

If you really wanted the can-bus adapter then somewhere like autoleads or caraudiodirect shoudl sell them.

Be aware your looking at £50ish to get the can-bus adaptor.

its a 2004 audi a3,
would it be possible to an ignition feed from near the steering column, because theres like a fuse box there under the cover,
would it be possible to take a feed from that and put in to the wiring harness that i bought?
would that work?

If you could find one yes.
Cigarette lighter is the popular one but on some years of car this is permanently live.

I reckon your cig lighter could well be a permanent live. Take an igition live feed from the fusebox. If your unsure what your doing then get someone who does know to do it, otherwise you'll be creating more problems that you solve!

the cig lighter is permanent on this 1, i think i will try the fuse box.
Also the new head unit works better with the sound system the head unit gets alot more out of the speakers and sub than the original head unit
