polo ABS

This is the third time in a yr my polo ABS has played up, other two times have taken car to garage and paid a fortune. ABS light comes on and off when it feels like it, only thing is when ABS light goes of, the ABS kicks in every time i break, driving me mad. Any advise? pleeeaaase

sounds like a wheel sensor playing up to me,or the wiring going to it.
