What tyre size ??

I have just bought a set of A8 alloys, off a circa 98 A8 17 inch, same design of wheel as my A6 quattro has on it. They are currently fitted with 225/55R17 tyres which look too narrow for the wheel (I think they are 8 inches wide ?).

Could anyone confirm if the current tyres are the correct size or should they be 235 or 245 instead ?
