Hey All,

I am after a bike rack for 8L S3....was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?
I know there are shed loads available, but have had disasters in the past with rubbish ones!

Cheers all:beerchug:

Hi There
Just to reiterate what golfmk5gttdi said, how do you want to mount it. roof? towbar? or straped to the back? also how many bikes do you want to carry, if your caring 1 ,2 or 3 normal light to medium weight XC mountain or road bikes, a strap mounted hi-rise boot/hatch rack will do, such as the Hollywood F10, the hi-rise keep the bike above the rear lights and number plate so you wont need a light board, see link. http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/id18253.html but if you carry something heavier like DH bikes that weigh substantially more or just want to carry more than 3 bikes, I would recommend that you keep all that weight off the paint work altogether the MaxxRaxx range of towbar mounted range will do the trick, these have a host of security features such as a built in cable lock that prevent anyone waking off with your bike while you stop for a comfort break, you also retain the use of the tow balls and access to the hatch see link: http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/index.html?action=search
but if you don't fancy having a towbar fitted if you don't have one already then have a look at one of the best roof mount rack available the Thule [toolay] range. http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductListPage____44276.aspx
Neither the MaxxRaxx or the Thule are particularly cheap but what price do you put on your bikes or more importantly your car one more option would be Adui's own rack. and no I'm not some sort of rack nerd, I used to work in a bike shop

WOW, what a response...thanks very much everyone!!!!!:beerchug:

I should have said in the first post, its just to carry maximum 2 XC mountain bikes, preferably back mounted, without a towbar.:o

SO to that end, I guess the Hollywood version will be just the job
THANKS VERY MUCH EVERYONE, especially KAS-1 for that comprehensive guide:biglaugh:

it looks like it is mounted far too high up.

it looks like it is mounted far too high up.

High up isn't always bad - too low and you cover the lights and reg plate and you will be pulled over the minute you are spotted. You really need a false plate and lights made up which get's complicated and expensive.

I used to work in a bike shop far too many moons ago and we sold loads of racks and always took the time to fit them to customers cars to show how to correctly do it - don't want anything falling off at 70mph !!

Thule, Thule and Thule.

Have carried numerous surfboards and and bikes with Thule kit for 18 years over thousands of miles - it never breaks.

Clinterous.....after having looked around, the Thule gear seems very very good stuff, and good price too......maybe we have a winner????

Cheers everyone for such a massive response!!!
