Combination of turbocharging and FSI direct petrol injection technology gives optimum combination of performance, economy and emissions control
Efficiency-boosting FSI engine technology meets performance-oriented turbocharging in the new A6 2.0 T FSI, which joins the range this week with the distinction of being the most cost-effective petrol executive model in the premium sector. Available in either SE or sporting S line trim, the new Saloon and Avant variants are now open for order at OTR prices of £24,340 and £25,910 respectively, and will be delivered to UK customers from July.

The appeal of the new A6 2.0 T FSI models is as strong on the road as it is on the balance sheet, thanks in part to the purpose-tuned turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder FSI engine, linked to a six-speed manual gearbox. With 170PS available between 4,300rpm and 6,000rpm and a torque peak of 280Nm between 1,800rpm and 4,200rpm, this responsive unit powers the A6 2.0 T FSI Saloon from rest to 62mph in as little as 8.4 seconds and, where conditions allow, on to a top speed of 141mph.

While the turbocharger takes care of throttle response, FSI technology helps to minimise exhaust emissions and maximise economy through outstandingly efficient distribution of fuel directly into the cylinders via a high-pressure common rail injection system. Consequently, the new A6 2.0 T FSI can cover up to 34.4mpg (combined cycle) and emits a comparatively low 197g/km of CO2, a significant 43g/km less than the 2.4 V6 next up in the range.

The impact of this new ultra-efficient lean-burn technology, which first proved its worth in the R8 sports cars competing in the Le Mans 24-hour race, is reflected in considerable tax savings for business users. A 40 per cent tax payer will make a company car tax saving of at least £456 each year by choosing the new A6 2.0 T FSI over comparable ‘entry level’ petrol executive saloons from the other premium German manufacturers*. The A6 2.0 T FSI also boasts lower day-to-day running costs than its direct premium sector competitors at 57.5 pence per mile*.

The specification of the new A6 2.0 T FSI models mirrors the 2.4 V6, with features such as the Multi Media Interface (MMI) Basic Plus control system, cruise control, a 10-speaker CD system, full climate control and automatic light and wiper activation fitted as standard. Highlights of the S line specification include 18-inch 5-arm alloy wheels, part leather-upholstered sports seats, S line sports suspension and an upgraded braking system for selected models.
