Sounds as if you're not the only one that's having problems with tyres.

16K seems to be about the norm for the original fit Michelin Diamaris.

Early Touaregs had some problem with wheel alignment though. If its still under warranty you might get them to do a full alignment check.

Hi

I worked in a service dept that dealt with these things on a weekly basis. Excess and uneven tyre wear was a massive problem for us and caused many many headaches.

We sold quite a few of the things and they all came back with this complaint. A common fault was the transfer box motor but this was not the only cause. We would GEO them and find that lots of them were out of alignment. We even did it to a brand spanker and that was out as well!!!

Working on the front desk was very very hard because VW at the time were not being reasonable with replacing tyres. They would often offer to go halves if the customer went bezerk!

I left before the problem was ever sorted out properly. The only solution was to do a full GEO check and re set and check the transfer box motor and replace if needs be (not in that order). VW were very reluctant to pay for the Geos under warranty at the time althgou I am not sure what the curent position is. I seem to remember they would pay of the geo if it was done as part of the transfer box repair but would not pay if just a geo was done in isolation.

One thing that did go on a bit was to condemn the transfer box motor regardless in order to get the whole thing covered.

We had some customers that were scrubbing out the inner edges of their tyres in less than 4 k miles! I believe Porsche had the same issues with the Cayenne as well. VW did release a buliten to us stating that due to the massive power of some the engines and the superior handling of the vehicle tyre wear could become excessive. That I think was to try and cool the situation.
