after looking at a few sites and wondering how they can charge the scandelous prices for these rare sockets, i dug very deep and found they are on a few different cars, one being the volvo 240! but anyway after searching long and hard i found one (albeit in the u.s. still) for $9 $16 including shipping to the uk, which is about ten quid delivered, maybe a bit less,

so the link to the site is

http://www.vwdieseltools.com/TDI3SidedBoltRemover.htm

ive ordered it at 4pm today, 09/07/08, i'll let you know when i get it

The traditional method is to use an 8mm socket and dremmel off 3 points.

not bad delivery time, will be doing it tommorow

would a 'how to' guide be needed on the site? i can easily do one, i dont bodge things

Can I ask why you dismantled it yourself vs having it looked at by say an independent diesel specialist?

because i put things together for a living, ten years in electronics assembly industry and now 12 months building engines for perkins/caterpillar, been working on car engines ever since i could hold a spanner :beerchug:

it was a breeze to fit, only fits one way, very straight forward, no need to pay someone vast amounts per hour to fit it

2x17mm spanners
1x torx driver bit
1x small torx driver bit (dont know sizes, in a cheap tool kit)
socket screwdriver
triangular head socket
1/4 inch rachet
11mm spanner (for triangle head socket)
kitchen roll
cotton buds

thats it

car has gone from new average after upsolute of 62mpg on my 30 mile run home, to 69.3 at one point, was driving so only got pic below after stopping a min or two later

got all pics of me doing it ready to upload as a how to
