wel after the write off of my beloved A6 2.8 quattro (third party to blame, gutted!), i have finally gone for a new car. and seein as im a young lad, with no need for a big car anymore, ive opted for a lil 2.0 beetle in black on a 2000 'w' reg.
wel, im fully aware that its abit of a girly car, so im guna tint the windows (legal limit of course), but was wonderin what wheels to put on? im lookin for a set of vag group wheels, not aftermarket stuff, thinkin of either the gti mk v monza alloys, the rs6 alloys or the rs8 alloys. any adivce guys? also, would anybody kno if 18's would fit without a problem, and not make the car look like its been raised either? cheers guys!

wel i was on this forum with my a6, but after that crashed i sort of stopped comin on, and insurance gave me a new merc e280 cdi for four months which was quite nice but i have to say the interior quality of the parts was rubbish! wel im jus wonderin really whether 18 inch rs8 alloys will make the car look too high?

My other halfs 2004 Black cabriolet has 18" Audi A8 reps fitted.

The standard suspension is too high so pretty much any wheels will fit (up to 20") so you'll have no problem there. The trouble is, when the new wheels are fitted you won't like the way they sit so you'll want to lower it. We've gone for 40mm all round and the ride is a little less comfortable but the look is far better. And you also don't get the ferry-type roll when going round corners.

Check out www.evvo.co.uk (http://www.evvo.co.uk). I think there are a couple of live threads on just this topic.

Good luck with the Beetle. And go and buy some shares in BP........

ah cheers Feeex, i was hopin not to lower it but il see when the wheels are on. also, when its lowered does the suspension get alot harder? as i dnt want the wheels rubbing if i put alot of stuff in the boot, as itl b luggin all my uni stufff about once a month down the M1 =P

You only fill the car once a month.......that's not a good enough reason not to lower!

To be honest lowering the suspension doesn't make much difference to the ride. The wheels will have a much more noticable effect. It does improve things around corners though.

I paid £30 for some second hand springs for her car and fitted them myself in about 3hours. Money and time very well spent!

ah ok cheers agen! but it wont rub will it? also, i was thinkin of puttin a jl audio competition level sub and amp in, which i have kicking about from my previous car, and these two things are seriously heavy! if i put them in the boot, with the lowered suspension, wud the rear sit alot lower or wud it be stiff enough to cope? the total weight would be around 40 kg in the boot.

40kg won't have too much effect, it's only the same weight as half a person. You could comfortably get away with 18's and 30mm lowering springs with no rubbing. And that's even if you fill your car with ICE and Uni stuff every now and then.

And you'll love the way it looks!
