Audi A4 DIS Computer Problems

HI,

I've just bought an 2002 Audi A4 Quattro TDi which seems to have a problem with the DIS computer situated in the centre of the dash :-

The display will intermittently go blank - Not black as when the display has been turned off via the switch on the stalk, but grey as though all the pixels have been turned on.

This occurs and disappears at any time. It could be like it at startup and then work OK or OK at start-up and then fault.

My guess is that its a dry solder joint or loose connection somewhere.

Has anyone seen this before.

I've spoke with Audi and they reckon that they would replace the whole dash at a cost of £400 + Vat + labour, which I think is a rip off.

its does sound like a DIS issue...these do fail over time... i dont have any wiring diagrams of the cluters... you could try just googling it..

or removethe cluster and check all connectors etc.

however VAG-COM can run a test on the cluster.

Cheers for that. How difficult is it to remove the cluster. Is it the complete dash that has to be removed or can I get just to the cluster.
Also, if the cluster has failed, can this be replaced without replcing the complete dash.
