I have a 99 Passat 1.8 Sport and have had squeaking/rattle from the near side front suspension for over 5K my local garage and 3 VW Dealers cannot fix the problem. The suspension has been dropped and regreased the suspension link arm and the lower suspension arm has been replaced all to no avail. Can anyone please help? this is my 5th Passat I still own a 85 GL5 which I use nearly every day and has caused less trouble in 20 years than this one has in 3 years. :1zhelp:

Hi

First of all, Thanks for joining and posting on the site :)

I would still say you had a worn out front wishbone or anti roll bar link on the front. Like the Audi A4/A6 the Passat has 8 arms, 4 each side, 2 top and 2 bottom, and 2 anti roll bar links, 1 each side. Any of these could be squeeking. These arms were subject to a VAG recall I believe, because of the problem you are having, and they did a modification kit which replaced all of them.

I would take your car to a VW specialist, and get them to check the remaining arms, AND confirm the new items are not faulty, does happen, and should not be ruled out ;), I am not sure how much success you have by re-greasing them either.

But, I would say that the arms/wishbones are still your problem, as there is not much else that could cause it on the front, apart from springs and shock absorbers.

Hope this helps a little
