Hi all

I have a problem with the heater plug light on the dash of my car. It comes on after driving for 5 mins and starts flashing. I was told it was caused by a faulty brake light switch but i have replaced this and still no joy. If I tap the brake pedal when the light is on, it will stop it only to return a few minutes later. Any ideas

I had the same on my car a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, it was an indication to let you know there was a problem in the ecu or the fuel system, which had corrected itself. It is in the manual which comes with the car.

I took mine to a mate who had the hand held code reader and he reset it and it hasnt come on since. (apart from when installing a superchip and on following the fitting instructions it again went out.)

Try getting a code reader on it, most good non Audiservice outlets will have one.

If you are in Lincs/Yorks area, Pm me as I have a contact who can do the check for you.

Just found the item in my owners manual. It says....

''If a fault should occur with in the engine management system while the car is moving, the glow plug indicator light will start flashing. The system will then switch automatically to the back up programme and engine power will be slightly reduced. Take the car to an Audi specialist as soon as possible.''

Have someone with a fault reader take a look but from my local specialist, it will reset itself when the ignition is switched off. If there is a permanant fault or a reoccuring fault the light will continue to flash until it is sorted.

Hope this helps.
