View Full Version : Passat Sport alloys to RS4?

Hello, I have a VW Passat 2002 sport, it's currently got 205/55/16 'sport' alloys, but I really like the look of the RS4 alloys, and I saw a cheap set on ebay (obviously replica's) which are 225/40/18.

I was wondering, will it just be a straight job, take old alloys off, put new one, or will I have all sorts of issues with offsets and possible rubbing on arch or something?

Has anyone put these alloys on their car which just has 16" as standard going up to 18"?

Please write bakc, if I didn't give enough information.

I've just looked up the RS4 and Passat details:

RS4: PCD - 5x112; Offset - 20; Bore - 57.1
Passat: PCD - 5x112; Offset - 35 to 45; Bore - 57.1

The Passat can take 225/40/18 wheels ok, but it looks like the RS4 wheels might have too small an offset, so might be an idea to check... If they're replicas you might be ok.

The replicas offset said it was 35-45, what does that actually mean though, I thought an offset is just like 45.

The figure for offset is usually stamped or cast into the wheel somewhere, it is usually found
under the centre cap or somewhere inconspicuous it might read something like 7j x 16 ET 42
The ET 42 bit being the offset. I guess the passat range uses various offsets from 35-45mm?
If the replicas are quoting 35-45 then they are either available in these sizes. Or the offset is 40 and that 'sort of' covers the range they are quoting?

The offset figure refers to how far the 'mounting face' of the wheel is offset from the radial centre line through the wheel.

In a nutshell, a 20mm offset wheel will be pushed outwards 20mm compared to an ET 40 wheel

If the offset figure is higher than stock then the situation can be corrected by use of longer bolts and appropriate spacers.

Stupidly long delay, probably because I just looked on ebay again, if I find out the off set, and not just 35-45, if it's close, do you recommned I buy them, or will it open a can of worms of problems.

wouldn't going from 205/55/16 to 225/40/18 screw up my speedo, or would it only be out by abit.

5mm in favour of new compared to your existing. They should be 634mm diameter IIRC.

See this (http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/wheel-offset.htm)for info on offsets.

So is that bad news? I'd rather not have to put on spacers or longer wheel nuts if possible :(

If it's the case, I might just stick with my alloys that I have now.

If you are sure the offset is between 35 & 40 then you should be OK. However the offset of the RS4 wheels according to A4Ade is 20 and yours 37 then the RS4 wheels will be pushed out probably to far beyond the wheel arch.

They are replica's and it says the offset is 35-40, I will be seeing which of these it is.

The real rs4 alloys are offset of 20.
