New cars - New wheels

Whats the best way to "seal" new wheels when getting a new car ;)

Want them to stay nice and new looking...

I'm looking to seal my wheels too and have bought Autoglym's sealant.

I used this for the first time last weekend.

I think the wheels are slightly cleaner, with less brake dust but certainly not spotless.

I am already resisting the urge to re clean them (after 4 days).

Of course it would be that I was not as thorough with my application, but it was just spray on and buff.

I did use the Augoglym tyre dressing as well and it was pretty difficult to stop this running onto the newly sealed wheels :confused:

I used the Autoglym Custom Clean Wheels but I don't know if it is safe to use the Autoglym Clean Wheels?

I have the 10 spoke wheels and they are a nightmare.The brake dust seems to build up within a day of cleaning them.My colleague has the standard wheels and they seem to stay clean for ages, I can't work it out.:1zhelp::confused:

I have tried a sealer but it didn't make any difference.:(

i have the std wheels on mine and they get a build up of break dust on them in no time. I've applied a coat of wax to them but it hasnt made much difference.

A build up of brake dust is largely unavoidable. Using a sealer and/or waxing may help but the real benefit is that it makes the wheels much easier to clean and help prevent the brake dust "etching" into the lacquer and ruining the finish.

Easier to clean usually relates to more likely to clean, cleaning on a regular basis is the real key to keeping them looking good.

I used Autoglym products "Clean Wheels" to get them nice and clean followed by "Super Resin Polish" and then "Extra Gloss Protection". This left them looking like new but a few weeks later they were covered in brake dust again. The upside is that it only took a quick wipe over to get them back to looking like new without having to give them a thorough clean again.

I must admit brake dust is a problem. Even when I had the wheel trims on it annoyed me.

I think as has been said, regular cleaning is the key.

I highly recommend these products. Ive been using them for ages and a pot goes a long way as you use it every few washes.

The Chemical Guys products is great, goes on bright Orange and then dries like a wax. Buff it off and tar and brake dust just collects on the surface. Use a microfibre to apply in all the corners of your new wheels and hot soapy water will get them clean again. These are the products I will be using when my A4 arrives.

I agree with comments about washing often. I often clean my wheels without doing the full car just to keep on top of it. These products are good but often just a quick wash between main washes will go along way too

Been thinking about trying a sealant for a while, wasn't sure I'd need one but what the hell... Just bought some poorboys wheel sealant and carlack glass sealer.

I've not ordered my new A4 yet but I'm determined when it arrives I'm gonna keep it clean so I'm experimenting a little with my current ride to see what works.
