Recent problem with windows opening automaticaly. If i press the key fob once to unlock the driver door all is ok but if I press twice to open the rest of the doors all the windows activate and drop down incramentally. When I close them I can still hear little clicks as if it is trying to lock and unlock while driving - any ideas for a cure -its driving me mad:zx11:

I have heard about this type of problem before, though no personal experience. I think it is something to do with the convenience module. Find someone local with vag-com, or an independent VAG specialist.

I have a 2001 A6 Quattro, I have to say that whoever in the audi design team came up with the idea with auto opening and closing of windows has in one stroke completely compromised the car security.
I have gone out to my car in the morning to find all of the windows down and suspected a fault of some kind and only recently discovered that pressing and holding the unlock button on the keyfob will initiate this stupid and unnecessary function.
If you put your key fob in your pocket and sit down in a chair in your house you can come out to find the windows all down.
Fortunately for me, no one had tried to steal anything but if they had I think that my insurance company would not have been keen to pay.
If there is some way of programming this function out please let me know.

Thanks - I know the holding down of the open button will do this but this is not the case with mine as it happens every time and I have tried using the spare set in case the fob was faulty - it has basically gone AWOL and re - synching of the locking system as per user manual will not cure it!

Thanks - I am bookin in the car for a cam belt change soon and will get them to check it but meantime the clicking and opening is driving me nuts. Anyone out there recommend a decent audi service ctr in SW london or Surrey?

I rang my local Audi garage who want £50+VAT to basically connect a pc to the user port toggle the function off and disconnect, no more than 5 min tops while it's fifty quid I'll live with it!
Thanks Gazza57

FFS, they must have run out of Mr Shene, they sure must get through it to keep their ivory towers spick and span!!!

Surely, you must be able to find an independent, particularly as your wheels are waaaayyy out of warranty?

Thanks for the offer , adams24 much appreciated.
Do you know? can you get the software?
Also thanks TTamer for your info, I live in hampshire and use an independent for all my servicing already, I must admit to greatly resent being held to ransom by audi.
Obviously it's not enough to charge £100/hr +VAT for most servicing, the minimum charge is half an hour £50/hr +VAT.
The real cost could be much higher than that collectively though, if you are charging £50 for half hour as a minimum charge for a 5 minute job and you carry out three minor jobs taking 10 minutes, (5 minutes set up 5 minutes for task) each then the net income to the dealer is £150 per half hour or £300/hr.
Thinking of it another way,you can have one technician carry out three jobs on three different cars and be paid for working on them all by three different customers all at once.
what's wrong with charging in 10 minute slots or part thereof?
A small job lasting less than 10 minutes would cost £16.66, a much more realistic charge and would make little tasks for which you need Audi a little bit more competitive, this still equates to £100/hr.

Had this problem last night... though not exactly the same...

was driving along and my rear passenger side window just went down.. thought i had lent on the switch!

pressed it quick to get it to go up by one touch and it went back down again...

i found it worked fine if you locked the rear switches from the main drivers switch so put it down to the rear window switch...

after a few plays up and down from the rear door switch it seems to have itself sorted again?

you can buy this mag at any newsagent but is better to subscribe for it because the numbers of copies are always kept at a minimum. but here it is :-

HAVE YOU EVER left your car, all secure and locked up and then found one or more of the windows open when you return? It's a problem which can happen all year round, but it can be much worse now that we are having so much rain and you find that the seats are soaking. It is also an obvious security worry as it allows easy access to the passenger compartment. This is not as rare as you might think. It seems strange that you never manage to see it happen, and you begin to wonder if someone has broken in.
It is a problem which is easily rectified. It applies to the A3, TT, A4 and A6, all of which have a one- touch facility on the power windows. This means you don't have to hold the switch in position to put the windows up or down. As an addition to this facility, some cars have "comfort close". This is when you are able to close or open the windows by pressing down on the lock or unlock button on the remote key. Quite often, the owner doesn't realise that this facility exists, so I'm sure plenty of you will be nipping out now to try it.
This fault only occurs if your car has this facility programmed in. The correct procedure to rectify the fault is replacement of the door motor/control unit, parts which have since been modified to cure the affliction. This time - consuming and costly course of action can be avoided by simply "coding out" the funcion from the convenience system's ECU. This is a simple fix which anyone with VAG-COM or the like can carry out, but be warned; make sure you make note of the original coding in case it all goes wrong. Be very sure that you have the correct information on the coding figures as incorrect coding can stop the ECU funcioning, leaving you without windows, locking and alarm! This action though, stops the fault reocurring and costs only the time it takes a technician to reset the coding about 10 minutes.

Thanks for the info re the window problem. I just had the car serviced by Audi Crawley and told them about the problem - I suggested programming out this problem but the said they didnt know about this fix. However they suggested a new locking control unit but didnt have time to get it in (part and labour quote about £400!) However since the service all has been ok but I saw a control unit new on ebay and bought it for £45 as a precaution. Does anyone know where in the car this unit is housed and if there are any problems in doing the job oneself. Are there reprogramming issues such as the code re-entry or is it just a straight forward swop of unit - dont want to screw up and then have to go back to a main dealer to get it sorted (@ £99/hour labour!!!)

James
