Hi, looked at a 2.0 16v 80, and compared to my 80 2.0 8v it seemed to be a noisier engine, it seemed to be quite rattly, like the old tappet noise, is this normal?
Also are the rocker gaskets easy to change on these?

Many thanks.:1zhelp:

Hi,

They are identical tappets to the 8v, just x 2! So more potential for noise. If the oil level is a bit low or the oil is old the tappets will be noisy. On higher milage cars they tend to be noisy even with the correct amount of fresh oil.
Cleaning the oil pick up pipe strainer, and /or replacing the big end shells can give a useful boost to oil pressure, which can sometimes solve the problem, but new tappets is probably easier and fairly cheap these days.
The twin cam engines also have a timing chain brtween the cams. These are often neglected and do make a big difference to top end 'harshness' when changed. - not that it will do anything for noisy tappets!
I think the inlet manifold 'curls' back on itself over the top of the rocker cover, so removing the cover involves removing the manifold first. If you are doing this, you might as well do the chain and tappets, just knock the price down?
