I know this is show your efforts, I thought I'd show what happened when I sent my car for a complete respray with a """professional, reputable company" that seems to have slept through my cars work.

See the doors, compared to the Wing?

They didn't do the roof, front or rear bumper, doors, left the N/S rear wing and left the bonnet too. They only did the boot and 3/4 wings.

It was a partial, crap respray that I HAD to pay £395 for. After trying to get TS involved, they said there was nothing I could do. Anybody know of a GOOD place that can do a complete respray....around the Nuneaton/ Coventry area?

thats is pritty poor for £395, but i wouldent expect much for £395 on a complete respray, considering it takes about £180 worth of paint at least, id look to pay about £800 for a simple blow over.

you must have felt like crying when you picked it up!

why did TS say there was nothing you can do?

Absoloutly. It was parked outside. I turned up to check on the progress. Found it sat outside and asked how much was left and they said thats all they were asked to do.

I said that I was told I could get a full respray from them as a favour for giving a few of their employees a car service. I did so. No mention of anything going wrong.

It was the manager that decided I couldn't have a full respray, unless I paid an extra 500. Until I did, the car would sit as it was.

A ploy I believe they used to get more money from me because I wouldn't want to leave the car in that condition.

TS said because it was their word against mine and there was no contractual agreement, I had no legs to stand on, but sympathised with me.

The paint was correct. What they did though, was not to sand the car...prime it properly and only used one coat of paint.

The colour of the paint tells me that they left the primer in with the white. As they used a grey primer.

Well a couple of weeks ago, I purchased a Mk 3 VR6 Golf. 71K on the clock.........just needs a new exhaust valve and timing kit.

At start of august, I'm getting the parts, and fitting them. I've already stripped the engine. The car is immaculate and the car has a fsh. Only 1 owner, a 50yr old doctor. :D

I'm going to sell the white golf when the vr6 is running.

Aside from the paint job, there's no rust, engine is at 76k, interior is immaculate. Just had 6mths tax and 12 mot......how much do ou think I could sell it for.....bearing in mind the interior is immaculate and the only problem is the paint job, which isn't really noticable anymore. Any ideas?

My thought is in the £500 - £750 area.

Sounds reasonable, I paid £600 from a trader for my M reg GL TD with duff electric windows and 4 months MOT left on it and shoddy paintwork. You're paying for the engine, chassis and bodywork at that age, so zero rust is a big draw. If the different shade of paint is not obvious (it seems to have been blended pretty well :D ) you won't have a problem shifting it. Nobody buys good paintwork for sub-£1000 anyway.
