I have a 98 Golf 5speed (pretty sure 2.0). I just got it a couple months ago and my friend that sold it to me told me he had this problem last summer too. Now that it's getting hot it often won't start; starter not turning over at all, no click, nothing. It seems to be directly related to interior heat, because if I leave the windows all down or park in the shade it's usually fine, but if I leave it in the sun with the windows up it guaranteed will not start for a while. So it seems to be electrical, and to be in the passenger area, not under the hood. What could it be? Does anyone have wiring diagrams for the ignition system?
