Stop those leaks...

Help please.....

My 2003 Beetle cabriolet has now rather annoyingly started to leak in heavy rain.

I can find nothing obvious, but both the drivers side front and rear foot pans are getting regularly saturated.

It's not a problem I've noticed before, as I was able to keep it in my garage, so I don't know how long it's been leaking.

It's now about a month out of warranty.:zx11:

Any suggestions?

whats the milage?? as sometimes there can still look at it under warrenty if its over 3 years but under 50K.... im only talking one or 2 months... also state its been occuring for the last few months in heavy rain and once
last winter.... i call it a "white" lie...

if not... check behind the plastic trim on the both sides just under the wipers under the bonnet and see if your drainage theres is blocked...

On the A4 it gets blocked with dirt over time and leaks into the P/footwell.

its a good place to start...

The mileage is about 9,000, I'll speak to my VW garage about doing something under the warranty...

But I wll certainly have a look around the wipers as you suggest.

Finally managed to get my local VW garage to answer the phone.

Have to book it in for a "wet test".....

Two technicians, one outside with a hose, the other inside in a wet suit....

They reckon it will cost £200 to perform, and then hopefully they will know what seal has gone.

After this they will approach VW about some sort of good will gesture.....no promises.

Worryingly other than the roof, the chap has never has never heard of them leaking!!

I looked under the bonnet, and around all the washers but couldn't see anything obvious...

We have a 2007 Beetle and we have noticed that it gets saturated with water in the footwell after heavy rain. :confused:

Took it to my local garage and they couldn't find leak, althought they did admit they are not specialist in this area.

The car has a sunroof and I tried to check if the drains in the sunroof are blocked. I poured some water near drains and the water it didn't move. So I am assuming the leak in the footwell is because of this.

Spoke to VW dealer and they say they will charge 115GBP to investigate the problem and then be able to tell us what is will cost to fix the problem. They said they this is not covered by VW warranty!

Does any body have any ideas as to what we should do?

Make a fuss: we had a 2005 Beetle with a sunroof and discovered water stains on the ceiling and a wet, saturated near passenger footwell. The technician mentioned these sunroof drains are notorious for easily getting blocked but as we knew the Service Manager very well he waived the costs in unblocking them even though the car was under warranty at the time. We then replaced the Beetle in 2007 with same diesel model but this time without a sunroof and thankfully no problems since.

Thanks - VW dealers are all saying that they will charge just to investigate the problem and we will have to pay for any works as not covered by warranty.
