right, the engine management light came on today. so, fault codes downloaded as follows:
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 8E0 909 518 AA
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT 0004
Coding: 0011504
Shop #: WSC 00022
3 Faults Found:
16891 - Idle Control System RPM Higher than Expected.
P0507 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
P1297 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean
P1136 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
Readiness: 0000 1100
ross tech wiki extracts for the codes:
16891/P0507/001287 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.
Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
Possible Causes
Throttle Valve Control Module (J338) dirty/faulty
Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
Possible Solutions
Check Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
Possible Symptoms
Power Loss
Possible Causes
Leaking hoses and/or pipes between components
Check Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
Possible Solutions
Check hoses and/or pipes between components
Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
Check / clean Throttle Valve, do Throttle Body Alignment
Special Notes
Did anyone fitted an extra (wrong) dump valve?
17544/P1136/004406 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean
Possible Solutions
Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Check Fuel Pressure Regulator
Check Fuel Pump
Check Intake/Exhaust System for Leaks
Check Secondary Air Injection for Leaks
Check Vacuum Lines for Leaks
it seems that there is a problem with the throttle control valve J338, is this also known as the N75 Valve?
i have read that the 17705 fault seems to be pretty common and can be a bit like pushing water uphill when trying to cure it.
leaky hoses
dirty throttle control valve
realign throttle bodies via vag com. can this go really wrong?
possible coil packs (apparently??)
anyway, thanks for reading this (if you have made it this far)
is there anything else i should be checking?
where can i buy these n249 and j338 valves apart from audi, vagproducts wasnt much help.
thanks in advance.
