When the engine is at normal working temperature where should the temperature gauge point? Should it be half way/in the middle?
My gauge seems to only go a quarter of the way.

Hi Basil_Brush
I have a Sharan 1999 1.9TDI 90BHP and Temp gauge only goes a quarter way.

Does it ever reach 90 degrees?
If continuous overcool could possibly be thermostat fault.

hi i have been told by a mechanic that half way is best its not too hot not too cold maybe he is right i think
The gauge wants to be pointing straight up, (90), if it's only going a quarter of the way it's running to cool, and will probably be using more fuel than normal.
