Hi, Just wondered if anyone out there could clarify when to change the cam belt on A4 2.5tdi 2003? the service record book is no help as i basically don't understand it. the car has done 38000 miles. i contacted several audi dealerships to ask the question but got conflicting answers. oh, by the way the one that said change now quoted £600!

Finnish Audi dealers recommend 90 000km (55 000miles) or every 6 years. I recently had the cam belt changed in my 1,9tdi. It had 52 000km on it at the time, but the belt was original and dated 2002. The guy who changed it said the old belt was a little stripped so it was a good time to have it done.

Hi, if you could came to London, i can replace the cambelt for £350 all in. You get new Contitech cambelt + relay roller + tensioner, pump belt and tensioner, uprated watter pump with metal impeller, aux. drive belt, AC belt and fresh coolant + a diagnostic check. Thats the best price there is as the parts alone retail at nearly 300 pounds ! I would replace the belt ASAP if i were you as it will cost 6 grand to replace the engine at the dealers and over 2500 to overhaul elsewere if the belt fails ! Regards, Chris- 07789912128.

I have a 2004 2.5tdi 180bhp. I had conflicted opinions from AUDI/VW as to when it was due, its somewhere in the region of 75,000 to 80,000. I had it done last year at a cost of £450 by a local audi specialist, my mileage at the time was 82,000. AUDI main dealer wanted £700, i also phoned Skoda, SEAT and VW who wanted c£600. These prices all include the full cambelt kit plus the tensioners which wouldnt automatically be costed as part of the cambelt replacement.

I would suggest that as your car is 5 years old, it may warrant being done now even though the mileage is low.

Thanks for that. I think that sounds sensible to me to do it now despite the mileage. i'd hate for it to fail and end up costing me a new engine! :approve:
