biggest tyre for a bora?

I have recently aquired some 19inch monsters for my bora tdi. They look the biz but the tyres seem stretched. A mate of mine thinks 245/35 r19 would fit fine, better than the 235s on them, but a tyre guy i know doesnt know if they will interfer with the body work.

Has anyone any experience of a smilar question, or know the maximum tyre width possible on a bora/mk4 golf?

Yeah mate they will rub on the inner wing, splash panel etc.

They will be really tight, especially if you're carrying extra weight. The bodge job would be to remove the wheel arch liners etc, but the sheer width of the tyre might rub on the springs etc, then you'd be going down the line of wheel spacers and modifying your wheel arches.
