I'm going to be putting a private plate on my 05 new A4 Avant. thre are no screws - does this mean I have to try and pull the plate off the front and back, and I am guessing they are on with some kind of double sided tape?

What's the best tape for this? I don't want to drill the car, so I would rather stick them on.

They are generally on with double sided sticky pads. One removal method I've used quite effectively is to use Strong Fishing Line or Dental Floss and use it with a sawing action behind the plate to cut through the pads, then clean off the residue with WD40

great top there - thank you - didn't think of that!

I guess, once I am ready to fix both plates, I could just use this kind of tape? :

I've seen pads around on ebay too which seem thicker?

I put my last set of plates on with pads that I bought from a Mr Motor store, and one of them fell off after about 4 months.

I got some more from Halfords, that were far thicker.

Heat them up with a hair drier before you stick them on, and they should be fine.

You could swing off mine once there were on !

I can't comment on the ones from e-bay having not tried it.

I can only vouch for what I got from Halfords, and it worked fine for me.
