Hi all,

I have a 2001 A4 130Tdi saloon, with an Audi Symphony stereo. My right speakers are crackling like crazy, driving me to dimensia. Has anybody experienced this, i.e. could it be a loose connection or maybe I need to replace the speakers. Leading to my next question, can anyone recommend a good upgrade set of speakers and will I need additional brackets to fit non-audi speakers.

Many thanks
Mairtin

Hi, I have fitted some adapters and 5" component speakers to a 96 A4 which sounded a lot better but I am waiting for some bigger adapters to arrive so I can fit a set of 6.5" inch components. The later A4's had 6.5" speakers as standard where as the older ones had 4".The 5" speakers I fitted are Alpine but speakers are really a matter of personal taste so your best to go and have a listen to some first. As for your crackling it is probably down to poor or damp connections I have removed many a set of speakers from cars with rusted connectors on the back.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Eclipse,

I'll save up for a new set.....in the mean time I'll check out the connections as you have mentioned.......I'm sure i'll find instructions on how to remove the door panels here somewhere...

Is it both front and rear right hand speakers or just the fronts? If it is both then you will almost certainly have a problem with the head unit. If it's just the fronts it will probably be a wiring or speaker defect.

Cheers RickT, cheaper than I thought, I'll go for the JBL's I reckon.

Froggy,
It's only the right hand front, and after further inspections when I crank the volume up they work fine, so I'd say it's the connections. I'm getting the removal tool for the head unit and taking the door apart this weekend, and while I'm at it I'll upgrade the speakers...

Did you manage to remove door cards/trim? If so how do you do it, I have same problem with nearside door speaker but cant see how to remove trim.
Any help appreciated.
