heater control lights

hi i have just bought a tdi s reg passat, the lights that show up heater controls at night do not work ,the other dash lights work but not these ,how do you get access to bulbs or unit to check whats wrong.its standard heating no air con

There is one bulb that illuminates the entire section - it is behind the center knob. Put the knob in the straight up and down position, and the knob will pull straight out with a bit of force. I used a piece of rubber vacuum hose and pushed it in over the bad bulb and pulled it right out. Getting the replacement lamp back in was a bit more challenging, but was still very easy...
