Audi TT 225 Turbo issue

Hi All,
I have a 2000 TT 225BHP that my wife drives which is currently displaying a turbo lag simiar to the first Audi turbos.

In second, floored the revs crawl to 5000 and then wallop, off you go toward the horison.

Whats the best option? Hit and independant specialist for the codes check or is it likely to be the MAF or Oxygen sensor replacement?

If you can suggest any other likely senarios I would be grateful.

Update:

Took it to Phil at the Audi specialist in Iver Berks and the error codes together with an emissions test and the results suggest the following,
Temp sensor,
MAF
or Secondary Air pump that compresses the air for the turbo. (1,2 or all 3!)
Car runs lumpy at 20mpg.
Looking to get the car in to go through each of these until it is resolved.
