Has anyone managed to replace the rear bush on the bottom suspension arm at the front of a Mk 2 Alhambra?

The car is a 2000 1.9TDI 115BHP and I have tried freezing the bush in the freezer and heating the arm. The bush entered about half way and then stuck and I had to quence the whole thing before the heat of the arm damaged the rubber bush.

Is there a better part to replace the original item?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorted

Had to resort to a local machine shop to press the bush into the arm. A real pain when you are trying to do repairs at the weekend.

Next time it will help to have a vice and a few large sockets + a few G clamps...and grease the bush well !!!

Hi Adam

The problem is the outer ring of the bush is alloy. as soon as you put any load on it the alloy distorts and the bush still will not enter the opening in the suspension arm. The alloy is so soft that the rubber in the bush makes it go egg shaped.
