Hi, I'm new to this forum, (and forums in general!), so I'll introduce myself first: I'm a plant fitter, and although I work mainly on construction plant and farm machinery, I get the odd road vehicle in too. I have a 1999 Transporter, 1.9 turbo, which wouldn't start, so the owner got a mate to have a look at it, this mate diagnosed it as the stop solenoid, and proceeded to smash the plastic cover thingy off it. What he didn't realise is that theres a PCB in the end of the cover, I presume this is the immobiliser? My question is, if I fit a new solenoid, will the van start? (the starter still turns). If not, can I just bypass the solenoid wire with one from the battery, as in the good old days?
