engine pre starting noise

I’m considering buying a second hand T5 with 1.9 TDi PD 104 PS engine. When I turn the ignition key, but before starting, there is a sound from the engine like liquid being pumped. This lasts about 1 second. Can anyone confirm if this is normal.

HI my t5 174pd has the same scushing noise so i can only presume it to be normal as it has done it from day one

I have the same with our VW Caddy. I think it is the fuel pump in the tank. If the T5 is the same as the Caddy.

i think it is just a pre-purge on the fuel pump. does it on mine and on my previous car, seat leon 1.9TDi
its all normal nothing to worry about

Yeah, quite normal, as said, the cars do it as well.
