Hello,

Slowly working through the list of problems on my 2001 Alhambra TDI SE and this one relates to the climate control. Basically it functions but doesn't blow cold (the display also flashes on start up) indicating a problem with the air con system.
Looking through some of the paperwork that came with the car I have a diagnosis log which says;

1 Fault(s) detected

00792 035
Pressure switch for air conditioner -F129-
No indication in display

I assume this means there is a fault with the pressure switch but, before I dive in, is this right? If so, where does it sit in the system and how do I go about replacing it?

Many thanks

Paul

I have a similar problem on my 02 reg 115, 1.9TDI Alhambra.

I am still working through the list:

The CLUTCH on the compressor had died, and it took me a while to afford a replacement. I went for a new compressor with clutch included. The non-specialist garage fitted this and re-gassed the system then the fault was cleared on the electronics.

The air con didn't work and the warning (flashing of the aircon/climatic display on startup) showed. This compressor was found to have a broken vane and didn't work.

Replaced (the broken replacement) with another compressor, fault cleared. After a few minutes driving the air con stopped producing cold air.

Decided to CHANGE PRESSURE SWITCH.
WARNING this is found UNDER the front right nose (go at it from underneath, near front wheel - no need to remove underside plastic safety cover) There is a aluminium pipe with a T piece. This mounts the switch (small pot with electrical connections) . My switch had corroded and the alloy pipe shattered ( as predicted) when trying to remove switch. Yes, we did try heating to loosen it.

This was replaced but after 5km air con stopped working.
Going back for 7th time - Germans are not great engineers in my experience.

WILL TRY
1) Checking gas fill pressure/quantity/type as suggested elsewhere.

2) Also will try direct (electrical) power to compressor clutch (with engine running) to see if it is a control issue. After previous experience I also suspect compressor bearing overheating.

3) Steal/beg control unit (cost 700 euros) to cross test against mine.

4) Murder a mechanic - or two :-)

Will report outcome/solutions

System will not clutch in if reading a fault, and 99.9% of the time it's a leak in the system so no pressure. Get your self a ultra violet light of ebay for about £2.99 and wait till it's dark, your system should always be filled with tracer for just this occassion, shine your light along the whole system starting at front a leak will GLOW a yellow/green colour and it really stands out. The P clips that hold the alloy pipes far to tight for my liking are a favourit thats were they usually crack. This should always be your starting point when working when trying to find whats up with your AC, LOOKING FOR LEAKS. Good Luck

AIRCON PROBLEM NOW SOLVED !!!!!!

The garage OVERPRESSURISED the gas system - there is a label on the crosspiece (when you open the bonnet) which gives amounts for 1 AND 2 condensor sytems. The clever man assumed that he should put the amount for a 2 condensor system in - WRONG.

I got him to put in the original amount (the same as for 1 condensor) and it has now worked finr for 1 year.
I also scrubbed out the second (inapplicable) details on the label.

Did same thing on mine big black felt tip and crossed out the amount for 1, as mine has the double system with air con in middle and back seats built into the roof and the other evaporater on the near side in the boot.
