Hi,

My first post here so hello to all :) I've just bought an 07 A4 S-line Avant Special Edition Quattro with a 2.0TDi 170 engine.

Spent ages looking to find the right one with all the toys - really pleased with the one I got as it has Xenon-plus, RNS-E sat nav, Bose, bluetooth prep, electric heated seats with driver memory, auto lights and wipers, F+R parking sensors, eleccy sunroof, folding, dimming mirrors, etc... Loads of toys to play with :) Basically it has almost everything except cruise control which is a bit of a shame but I'll get round to fitting that soon probably.

Anyway, I have a question about the bose which I'm a bit disapointed with... If I listen to the radio or a CD I have the bass set to almost full gain and still don't get any real bass out of the system. Am I right in thinking the speakers in the doors are only mids and most of the bass is supposed to come from the sub in the boot? If I put my head in the boot I can hear it but it is almost inaudible when driving and sat in the drivers seat. To be honest, the system sounds like there is hardly any mid to low end frequency response - the standard system in my last car had much more low end thump. It needs the treble turning down a good bit to take some sibilance and harshness away but I just can't get the low end to balance out.

Should I visit either
a) My local Audi dealer to check it's all ok
or
b) My local hearing specialist as I am going deaf?!

Thanks all in advance,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

Welcome to the Forum :D

I have the Bose in my A4 and I can tell you that I can definately hear the bass and i don't have mines turned all the way up!! Now, I do have a saloon but you should still be able to hear it in the Avant!

So, in answer to your question, maybe a visit to both is required ;) But I would go for the dealer first :)

Nice sounding car btw. Think I'm getting more and more jealous as i type! What colour did you go for?

Enjoy the toys!

Paul :D

Thanks Paul,

The car is in Phantom black so looks really nice with the black optic pack on the special edition.

I can definitely hear the bass too, it just isn't in line with the rest of the output sound levels. I can't imagine what might be the problem though! If I set both treble and bass to the middle setting via the sound menu I get a very, very clear sound but with no low range punch or any real bass output. Pushing the bass up to the maximum setting just means I get a bit of bass boom with really low notes but I still don't get a proper mid to low range sound output...

Will see if the dealers have any suggestions!

Gareth.

Bass is notoriously weak in the avant, I doubt there is anything wong with the system. Much better to swop out the BOSE system for a decent aftermarket set-up if your after a good quality sound with plenty of bass.

Gareth,

Good choice, I think the A4 looks great in Phantom Black (Not Biased at all:rolleyes:)

Yeah, best ask them, as if nothing else they'll hopefully have another one there they can cross check with!!

Thanks - I wondered if it was just an issue of the environment the sub is in... As I say, I can hear it is working fine in the boot it just doesn't travel too well to the driver's seat!

To be fair, I don't want a crackers sub in the boot solution - it would just be nice to get a better flat response from low to high! My old C-Max had much better bass response with just the standard Ford speakers.

I'll leave it for a while and see how I get on...

That's a good idea - will have to see if I can get someone in work with the Avant and bose to let me listen to theirs and see how it compares.
