Engine turning off

Hi guys, I recently bought a Passat 1.8 s 20 V 1999 T reg with 100K. Since yesterday, as soon as i took the foot off the accelerator, the engine is turning off, it is not staying on with out any acceleration. Then it restarts with a bit of difficulty and it repeats again on the next signal stops. Can you guys please tell whether it is a problem of the battery or something else.

Have you disconnected the battery?

no, i havent disconnected the battery

Then first of all you need to get a fault code read done but what you are experiencing can normally be cured by cleaning the throttle body and re-adapting the ECU.

Hi, just to say I had a similar problem with my 2.5 petrol T4, turned out to be the fuel pump relay, the engine would stop on slowing (at a junction ect) then start again after waiting 1-2 mins
