Hi I took car in for 60000 service plus cambelt change only to be told they have not got the right tools to carry out the cambelt change on the v6, these tools cost £175.00 Vat from German/swedish.
Is this true? what different tools are required to do this cambelt

Also we have a issue when we put our foot down going from 4th to 5th there is a dangerous loss of power from time to time,it's very much like rev limiter kicking in. we have had air mass meter changed any ideas?

Happy New Year

Check for vacuum leaks also it may be that the charge pressure control valve may be defective or the turbocharger vanes may be sticking, thus putting the car in limp mode but it will clear as soon as the ignition is shut and car started again ! Have it checked for fault codes !

Thank's for Adamss24,
Keep the advise coming
I still need concrete advise on what to have changed when cambelt is done, all belts, pulleys, tensioners and water pump or just some of them?
One company want to charge £1425 all in.
VW ******* wants £507.00

The service schedule specifies cambelt change on the V6 at 80k miles so if you want to save money, wait another 20k.

It will be expensive though whenever you get it done. It is a big job. The front end of the car has to come off - everything in between the wings at the front end in front of the engine and it takes time.

For this reason, if you are keeping the car, have all belts, including diesel pump drive belt, changed long with tensioners and belt. You don't want to pay anyone again for a failure between cambelt changes.

Last but not least, because it's a complex job, make sure you go to a good Indie to get it done preferably an Audi indie. They have far more experience with this engine in A4's and A6's that VW who only see it in Passat.

Expect to pay £400-500.

Hope this helps. I'm on my second V6. First was a 2000 150bhp estate and currently a 54 plate 163 saloon. IMHO, one of the most unerated cars on the road.

Thanks JonathanK,
I think VW has changed it's views to 60,000 or 4 years which ever comes first?
I don't know if anyone can clarify this?
Keep the info coming

Many thanks

Don't know why VW would have changed their views. The service schedule for the 150 and 163BHP models both state 80k and the V6 TDi model has been available since 1999 in the UK so if they've experienced a lot of early failures, they would have done something about it before now.

4 cylinder cars 90/110/115/130 and 150BHP all have 60k cambelt change. Maybe someone is getting them mixed up?

If you want reassurance, ask an Audi dealer what the change time is on a V6 2.5TDi.

Good luck whatever you decide.
