Hi All,

I have a PASSAT 1.8T 20v 1998 model, bought recently. The vehicle has 117K miles on the clock, but comes with full VW main dealer service history up to 110K (next service due in 3K).

Yesterday I was just having a look under the bonnet and realised that the coolant level is just at the (may be fractionally under) minimum level. No warning lights or anything on the dashboard.

The hand book and the coolant cap refers to G12 coolant, but the stuff inside at the moment seems to be blue/green, which leads me to believe that its G11/G48 (Read somewhere that G11/G48 is the same, VW decided to change the part number and G-number at some point).

Anyway my questions are?

- Does the coolant level which I explained above need to be attended to immediately?

- If so, do I go ahead with a blue/green coolant? or change the whole thing to G12, which seems to be recommended in the hand book, and coolant cap.

- Any reason why it might have been switched in the first place?

- and finally do I need to go for the VW stuff? or can I get something matching the colour from Halfords?

Thanks a lot for your answers,
Regards,
DJ
