A3 2.0TDI, high speed knoking

Hi

My A3 2.0TDI has done 63k and has all of a sudden developed a knocking noise at high speed from somewhere in the area of the drive shaft/gearbox. The noise only starts between 90 and 100mph and is speed rather than revs related. After about a week of it making the noise the traction control light has also started to come on permanently after about 5 mins driving.

I have had the car into an independent Audi specialists and they couldn't see anything obvious and said the computer isn't returning any faults, but obviously weren't willing to do 100mph to hear the fault for themselves.

Has anyone got any idea what this could be?

mine was the under belly trim had not been fixed back into place properly - make sure all the screws and bolts are there as they are easily lost / broken when changing the oil
