View Full Version : Broken Boot Hinge on 2003 Passat

I opened my boot the other day to find that the left hand side hinge had broken. It looks like one of the joints has rusted and snapped, possibly due to water retention in the well below the top left hand side of the boot lid. The part that is broken looks to be the part that ensures a smooth opening path.

I can still use the boot but it does not open or shut in 1 steady movement, where the left hand side now is a law unto itself and could potentially damage the rear window/bodywork if I do not take extra care when using it.

I rang my local VW garage for a quote, but yet no return call with a price - which is worrying as it seems to be a simple replacement job.

I bought the car 6mths old from this dealer, but suppose now this would not be covered by any warrenty ? It is annoying as if the part has rusted from water retention, it seems to be a bit of a design fault by VW.

Any advice on repair costs/similar stories welcomed.

thanks
