Newbie buyers guide to A4 avant 1.9 tdi 130

I have found a Avant a4 1.9 TDI sport auto any buyers tips? How do I know if its Multitronic? Its done 28k miles and 2004 model. I would appreciate any advice? I read about alot of auto problems should I go for a manual?
