Hi I've had trouble with a leaky rear washer which was causing a fault with the boot lid switch. The alarm thinks its open causing the alarm to go off. I've cured the leak but not the alarm problem. Any suggestions? Do I need a new switch on the lock?

Might need a new one, or there is corrosion in the lock from the leak causing something to short and give the wrong readings...

I just had the same issue last week.. hairdryer over the boot lock for a while, some WD40 and a few hot days driving with the windows open has fixed it for me :)

:aargh4:Its stopped working completely now! I can't open the boot at all not even with the key. it won't turn in the lock. I'm having to access the boot through the folded down rear seat! LOL. Looks like an expensive dealer job!:mad:

Did you remove the boot trim and give it a good run over with a paint stripper or hair dryer?

Look around the joins of the mechanical parts and also where there are any electrical connections. A liberal spraying of WD40 (shield your face) and driving with the windows open should fix it after a few days unless it's a long term problem and has caused serious corrosion to electrical connections.

EDIT: how did you cure the leak? did you do the full DIY job with piping or did you just re-seat the collar connector (it may be split like mine was).

Hi Solari. I did take the trim off,eventually. We had a bit of trouble getting it off. the pipe was off but not broken. I put it back on then secured it with sillicon sealer and 2 little cable ties as they do in the factory. I didn't dry it as such because it was already dry. This problem has been on going for about 3 months and have only just got round to fixing it. I haven't used the rear wash-wipe since so it can't be more water in there. I sprayed the lock mechanism with WD40 and 'worked' it manually quite a few times and it seemed quite free. Then next day, boot lock stops working altogether! its still like it now.I'm loathed to go to VW cus I can't really afford to re-mortgage!

I'm wondering if delaying looking at it could have been the primary factor here, as any electrical contacts will have had time to corrode :(It might be worthwhile looking for an independent VW specialist rather than taking it to VW as they will probably try to sell you the whole Boot lock or washer assembly at an inflated price :(
