Toledo 2003 SE TDI 110 Indicator Noise

Hi all,
Problem as follows:
When I turn indicator off a ticking noise continues. It is not exactly the same noise as when indicating but similar. The problem comes and goes but it is infuriating.

I saw a Golf thread suggesting it is a relay problem?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
